ideas for action

ideas for action

for years i pondered, read, argued and analyzed the state of the world and condition of the planet...

but i did nothing.

i felt informed and knew many answers.

i still did nothing...

only to realize that i was part of the problem i was so engrossed in solving.

so in 2003, i started infraSys, a company which invested in rural india to create livelihoods and generate income. i reinvested the principal and profits in similar enterprises. these small investments improved lives.

encouraged by this, i retired infraSys and created vishvakarma, as a platform for individuals to come together and act to change the lives of others and their own.

i believe that it is our responsibility to bring positive changes to the lives of the poor, the hungry and the disadvantaged and also care for the planet at the same time.

this process is difficult but i know that it is the right thing to do.

just being good is not enough.

welcome. explore these pages and become a vishvakarma.

  2. Our work in now focused in rural India.

  3. vishvakarma works with the general guidelines (outlined below), towards sustainability.

a personal note

  1. public or common good must prevail over private or personal gains.

  2. knowledge, experience and skills should be openly shared.

  3. just and fair public policies which are enforced, are essential to reduce inequality, injustice and violence.

  4. repair, remedy and reinforce existing systems. do not re-invent the wheel

  5. a self reliant economy is possible only if primary production of goods & services is local.

  6. the current global economic system demands unlimited growth, relies on energy intensive technologies; is dependent on fossil fuels; finds labor an inconvenience; is irreverent to the environment; greedy for resources and exploitative of human and other forms of life. This cannot last.

  7. a holistic paradigm shift is necessary if we are to sustain life in the long run.

  8. a moral-ethical imperative is necessary to remedy wrongs and help others.

  1. development is another word for growth. it is used to dignify the mantra of growth to the poorer nations and peoples.

  2. continuous and unlimited growth is not sustainable in a finite planet. sustainable development is therefore a contradiction and hence an oxymoron.

  3. sustainability is not possible based on continuous growth from limited resources & fuels accompanied by pollution, loss of species and biodiversity.

  4. food is the basic energy for all life and sustainability depends on food and water supplies.

  5. unchecked human population growth is not sustainable.

  6. technologies are not neutral. they are either labour saving (energy intensive & pro capital) or toil saving (pro labour).

  7. capital seeks to reduce or eliminate human labour with technologies.

  8. money is a measure of wealth and is not wealth.
